Christy Woods is a protected 17-acre natural forest on Ball State’s campus with over 100 years of history as an outdoor teaching laboratory. Multiple winding trails wind through mature oak hickory and other hardwood trees. Wildflower displays emerge in spring including trillium ferns hepatica and jack-in-the-pulpit. Seasonal bird watching opportunities attract ornithology enthusiasts. The trails accommodate walkers and nature photographers. Interpretive signage identifies trees plants and ecological features. The woods serve as a living classroom for Ball State’s environmental education programs.
